Manchester Neural Coding event
The University hosted an international Neural Coding workshop, funded by a grant from the UK Neuroinformatics Network, at which 100 people attended. Six high-profile international researchers gave presentations (Word document, 26.5KB) and the majority of the delegates were from outside the University.
Drs Marcelo Montemurro, Stefano Panzeri and Rasmus Petersen organised and chaired the event, with the invaluable administrative help of Alyson Chambers. The organisers are keen to encourage future meetings around this area of research under the 'umbrella' of the Neuroscience Research Institute. The Institute has established sub-groups focussing on key areas of interest and it is likely that Neural Coding will exist as part of the Computational Neuroscience grouping. Among current activities in this area of research, is an MRC-funded MSc programme in Computational Neuroscience and Neuroinformatics, which is already running.

Developmental Psychopathology seminar
"Exploring different sub-types of anrisocial behaviour" and "Psychopathic disorders in adolescents and adults"
Essi Viding (University College London) and Mairead Dolan (University of Manchester)
8 March 2007
MEG facilities at the University of Liverpool
Dr Neil Roberts gave a talk on the Magnetoencephalography facilites available for use at the University of Liverpool. For further details, please contact Vicky Catterall (firstname.lastname@example.org)
28 February 2007
The Institute hosted an event looking at different forms, analysis and applications of imaging across the University. Presentations were given by a variety of researchers including Prof Nancy Rothwell who reported on the University Imaging Review Committee. Delegates found the event very useful and asked that future events be arranged. It is likely that monthly educational workshops will be held focussing on different imaging modalities and further details on these will be advertised shortly.
21 February 2007
Developmental Psychopathology workshop
"Intergenerational transmission of anxiety: evidence from longitudinal and experimental studies" and "Early experiences and psychological development"
Talks were given by Lynne Murray (Prof of Developmental Psychology and co-director of the Winnicott Research Institute, University of Reading) and Dale Hay (Prof of Developmental Psychology, University of Cardiff)
